Daysheets

May 23, 2010

Entries are due on May 29 for the Preston rodeo on June 12.  Please send your entries in on time.  I will accept late entries for up to one week, with a $10 late fee per contestant.  Remember, we are offering an optional Friday night slack for barrels and poles.  You will be able to enter for the 2nd rodeo in Malad on June 26 at the Preston rodeo.

March 15, 2010

We have had to reschedule the first 2 rodeos.

The first rodeo will be in Preston on June 12.  The second rodeo will be in Malad on June 26.

Entries are due May 29 and June 12.  The last 3 rodeos will not be affected, Challis on July 10, Rigby on July 17, and St. Anthony on July 31.

To save money, I will not be mailing out membership forms.  They  are available online at www.idahojrrodeo.com/Forms/forms.htm.  If you are unable to access the forms, please call me at 604-0131 to request a copy.

We will be offering Barrels and Poles in an optional Friday Night Slack at Preston.  If it is successful, we will continue to offer slack at the other rodeos.  We are also allowing prior members to enter for an exhibition run in Preston.  Prior members need to be included on the membership waiver, but do not have to pay membership dues or sponsorships.

This year, we will be giving contestants a raffle ticket for a breast collar for every $100 in sponsorships they raise.  Hopefully this will give the kids an incentive to go out and raise some money for IJRA!  The raffle will be held at the Preston rodeo.

February 8, 2010

Highlights from the meeting on Saturday:

  • The no re-ride rule in the sheep riding was amended to say that if a sheep falls, the judges have the discretion to score the ride.
  • Our financial report was not positive.  To save/raise money, we are going to:
    • Raise family membership to $100, keep a single child membership at $50 and increase all entry fees by $3.  I will update the forms and email them out.
    • Scale back prizes to better match the level of funds coming in.
    • Ask Hoggan Rodeo if he’ll accept less for stock.
    • Cut the judges and bullfighters’ pay in ½ for the top ten rodeo.
    • Cut judges’ pay by $50 to $200/rodeo.
    • Raffle tickets will be awarded to contestants for exceeding the minimum sponsorship amount.  Kids will receive 1 ticket for every $100 in sponsorships to enter in a drawing for a breast collar at the first rodeo.
    • Secretary will not mail paper copies of membership forms to all prior members.  I will send forms if people request them and I will email them to everyone.
  • We will award saddles to the all around winners if we have them all sponsored by May 1.  We currently have 3 saddle sponsors.  We will award Corriente saddles, which cost $650.  Saddle sponsorships can still be split for $325 each.
  • Malad will be held on June 12 instead of June 19.  Schedule for this year is:
    • June 12 - Malad
    • June 26 – Grace
    • July 10 – Challis
    • July 17 – Rigby
    • July 31 – St. Anthony

January 11, 2010

There will be a meeting at the Red Lion Inn in Pocatello on February 6, 2010 at 7:00.

December 3, 2009

Remember, we need more corporate sponsorships this year!  For companies willing to contribute $200 or more to the IJRA, we are proud to showcase thier association with an ad in our sponsor calendar, announcements at all rodeos and awards ceremonies, notice of important events, a listing in the sponsors section of our website, and their logo imprinted on our rodeo daysheets. We can also display thier banner in the arena and present their flag in the Grand Entry performance of each of our rodeos. Sponsor forms are below:

·  Corrienne buckles would be $90 for day buckles and $100 for year end.  The total for the year would be about $21K.  Saddles are $625 each and are pretty comparable to what we gave last year.

·  Do we need an ambulance?

Friday night slack:  Will only be for barrels and poles, the judges and timers will not be official but we will use the eye.  The barrels and poles will be staked on Friday and left for the Saturday rodeo.  Directors do not have to be there but will have to send barrels/poles with someone else if they cannot make it.  Jason will look into whether we need an ambulance.

From Jim and Lori Neihart:

Thank you to everyone who helped us out Saturday with the goats.  Josie is doing great just sore and bruised up. Josie was life flighted to Pocatello because the EMT's couldn't get a steady heart beat, her blood pressure was soaring, and she wasn't breathing right,   during the flight she actually fell asleep and things calmed down.  No broken ribs, no bleeding anywhere.  She is really sore and bruised but doing great.  Thank you to everyone who has called and who jumped in to help us out.

June 7, 2009

Well we survived the rain and mud and made it through our first rodeo!  It went great, thanks to everyone who pitched in and helped out.  A special thanks to our vice-president, Wes Harris, and his family for all of their hard work putting the rodeo together.  The kids all did awesome and you can see the results and the All Around standings on the 2009 Results page.  If you don't see your child's name in the all around list, even if they haven't earned any points yet, please let me know.

A few reminders:

  • If you use a stall at the rodeo, please clean it before you leave.  If you don't, our local rodeo committee is stuck cleaning up your mess.

  • Please clean up your area in the stands and around your trailer.

  • Entries for Malad are closed and entries for Challis are due on June 27.

  • Sponsor calendars are available for $10 at every rodeo.  If your sponsor would like a copy of the calendar, please come talk to me.

  • Nominate a 0-8 contestant for the RD Kuttler Memorial Buckle.

Thanks again to everyone who helped out yesterday and congratulations to all of our fabulous cowboys and cowgirls.  See you all in Malad!

May 13, 2009

Remember entries for the first rodeo are due on May 23 and entries for Malad are due on May 30.

April 15, 2009

I will be out of town until May 1 and will be unable to accept email.  I will be available in the evenings at 604-0131.  Thanks.

April 4, 2009

  • We are now accepting IJRA gift certificates if you’d like to use them to pay for entry fees.  They must be used in the year they are won.  Certificates won at the last rodeo and year end can be used at the Top Ten but cannot be carried over into the next year.
  • Each contestant must have at least $25 in sponsorships.  This is not $25 per family.  Sponsorships must be in by April 30 to be in the sponsor calendar.  If you are paying sponsorships yourself and do not want an ad, just note that on your sponsorship form.
  • Contestants may only enter events in one age division.  If your child wants to move up in one event, they must move up in all events.
  • I have the red IJRA drop box up across the street from my house (316 E 400 N Blackfoot) next to my regular mail box.  If you need to drop anything off at my house, please leave it in the drop box.

March 27, 2009

Remember, memberships are due by April 1, 2009 for returning members and must be notarized.  Forms are available on the membership page, under the forms tab.

Changes to the Rule Book for 2009

  1. The IJRA will assess a $10 fee per contestant for late entries.  Entries are due 2 weeks before the rodeo.  Late entries will be accepted for 1 week, with the $10 fee per contestant.  Entries received more than 1 week after the due date will not be accepted.
  1. Boys 9-12 calf tie down will be changed to goat tying.  Rules will match the Idaho Wrangler Division.  The rules read as follows:

The goat is tied to a stake with a rope ten feet in length. Starting line will be 100 feet from the stake. Contestant must be mounted and ride from the starting line to the goat, dismount, throw the goat by hand and tie any three legs together with piggin string. If goat is down when roper reaches it, the goat must be elevated by roper so that at least three legs extend directly underneath before being thrown. Time is called when the roper stands back with hands raised. Judge waits six seconds to determine that the goat is securely tied.

  1. The following rules will be added for all rough stock events:

The contestant will be turned out if they are not on their animal before the announcer has called their name 3 times.

If the contestant shows reluctance once they are on their animal, the rough stock director will ask them 3 times whether they want to ride.  If they say no, they will be turned out.

It will be the at the rough stock director’s discretion whether the animal is acceptable to be called for, and the contestant will have 3 chances to do so.  If the contestant refuses to call for the animal, they will be turned out.

We are planning on giving away all around saddles this year. The saddles are $800 each and can be split between 2 sponsors.  We need to have all 6 saddles sponsored by May to go forward.

Keep in mind, our first two rodeos are on June 6 and June 13, so entries for these rodeos will be due on May 23 and 30 respectively.  Note that both dates are before the first rodeo!  The July rodeos fall on 3 consecutive weekends, so you will not be able to enter for the next rodeo at the rodeo!  Also, entries for the Rigby rodeo are due on July 4.  Even though it is a holiday, there will be No Exceptions to the entry rules!

I look forward to seeing you this year!  If you have any questions or concerns, please email or call me - 604-0131 or secretary@idahojrrodeo.com.

February 12, 2009

We now have 5 saddles!  If we can get one more saddle sponsor,

we can give saddles to the all-around winners this year!  If you know of

a business that would be willing to sponsor a saddle ($800), or half of a

($400), please ask them and let us know!

Wes and Jen Harris

Jason and Emily Clemens

Kelly and Cindy Duffin

Russell and Lauri Lehman

Ben Thomas

Wayne and Heather Pulsipher

Dell and Sherise Timothy

Josh and Emma Rindlisbacher

George and Debbie Couch

Brock Mortenson

A motion was made to accept the meeting minutes and rule book changes from the last meeting.  Motion Carried.

A motion was made to accept the current Board of Directors.  Motion Carried.

A motion was made to accept the following event directors:

            Steerwrestling/Chutedogging – Aaron Boots

            Roping – Dell Timothy

            Rough Stock – Brock Mortenson

            Poles – Shanna Swan

            Barrels – Kelly Duffin

Goats – Jim and Lori Neihart

            Contestants – Lauri Lehman

Motion Carried.

Heather Fehringer, Treasurer, gave a finance report.  We currently have about $7,000, which is enough to do the first rodeo.  We have spent about $3,000 since the last meeting.

Emily Clemens, Secretary, gave a corporate sponsors report.  Idaho Dairymen have agreed to give us $1500 this year, but this will likely be the last year they donate.  We haven’t heard from any of our other usual sponsors.  We may have to look into doing a fundraiser.  Next year, we could possibly raise the family membership dues to $100 and/or raise the minimum sponsor to $35.

We have 4.5 confirmed saddle sponsors.  We will plan to go ahead with the year-end saddles.  If we don’t have enough sponsors for 6 saddles by May, we will return the donations already received and not give away saddles.  If anyone knows of any businesses that are willing to sponsor a saddle, please ask them.  It is $800 per saddle, and we can split one saddle between 2 sponsors.  The link is to a Saddle Sponsor form you can give the sponsor to fill out.

                        Saddle Sponsor Form

A motion was made to approve the following rodeo schedule:

            June 6 – Preston

            June 13 – Malad

            July 11 – Challis

            July 18 – Rigby

            July 25 – American Falls

Motion Carried.

A motion was made to continue with Hoggan Rodeo Company to provide stock for $3500 per rodeo.  Last year we paid $26,000 for stock, including all miscellaneous providers. Motion Carried.

OPEN DISCUSSION

Laurie Stone suggested requesting jacket donations from businesses to give away at the Top Ten.  Last year, several business donated jackets and it saved a lot of prize money.  One problem with the donations is they aren’t necessarily the right sizes.  Most of the kids are medium sized, so adult L and XL don’t fit very many kids.  It was suggested that we look for jackets/vests now, while they are on sale.

We discussed prize ideas, people liked the cinch buckles and spurs from last year and tack.  Some ideas included hat boxes and bronc halters.  A motion was made to provide a token prize to all of the 0-8 contestants at one of the rodeos.  Motion Carried.  Heather Pulsipher will be in charge of finding a prize for about $1 to give each of the kids.

A motion was made to give an RD Cutler memorial buckle to a 0-8 contestant who shows heart and commitment at all of the rodeos.  The Secretary will keep a nomination box and the Association Presidency will choose the winner.  The buckle will be presented at the American Falls rodeo.

We discussed ways to make the rodeo run faster.  Running 2 sets of poles was discussed and it was mentioned that the rough stock takes a lot longer per contestant.  A motion was made to add the following rules to the rule book:

The contestant will be turned out if they are not on their animal before the announcer has called their name 3 times.

If the contestant shows reluctance once they are on their animal, the rough stock director will ask them 3 times whether they want to ride.  If they say no, they will be turned out.

It will be the at the rough stock director’s discretion whether the animal is acceptable to be called for, and the contestant will have 3 chances to do so.  If the contestant refuses to call for the animal, they will be turned out.

Motion Carried.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.

January 7, 2009

Happy New Year everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!  Now, it's back to business.  We are still looking for a rough stock director, as Tom and Shasta Dixon would like to retire.  If you are interested, please let me know.  We will be having a Board of Directors' meeting on February 7, at 6:30 at the Red Lion in Pocatello.  If you would like to join the Board, please come to the meeting.  Membership forms are now available online on the Forms page.  I will be sending out membership forms soon, so if your address has changed please send me an update.  Also, a reminder, you can now reach me at 604-0131 and Jason at 604-1667.

Thanks!

Emily Clemens

  • Motion to continue top ten championship at EISF.  Motion passed.
  • One member suggestion was to pay money at rodeos to 9-12 and 13-16, rather than buckles.  Motion to keep buckles.  Motion passed.  Motion to continue with Gist as buckle provider.  Motion passed.
  • President suggested giving a saddle to year end all around winner.  Discussion points included:
    • Parents can be a problem when the prize is as valuable as a saddle.
    • Other rodeo associations give saddles.
    • We need to continue to pay down the same amount at year end if we give a saddle, the sponsors would have to pay for saddles above and beyond current levels.
    • The board will have to stick together and support the judgment calls of the president, vice-president, event directors, and judges.
    • The judges’ scores and calls need to be consistent from rodeo to rodeo.
    • Maybe we should have a grievance committee to address parents’ problems.

Motion to look into sponsors and vote on the saddles at the next meeting in January or February.  Motion passed.  Those who agreed to look for sponsors include:  Jennifer Corgatelli, Kortney Gee, Wayne Pulsipher, Shanna Swan, and Dell and Sherise Timothy.  Each saddle will be about $850 and can have 1 or 2 sponsors, with their names printed on the saddles.

  • Discussed whether to continue to print sponsor calendars.  Jeff Gee suggested asking the media class at a HS to put the calendars together.  Jennifer Corgatelli agreed to work with her class and the Firth HS teacher to do that, if possible given the timing.
  • Shanna Swann can no longer bring the flags to the rodeo.  If anyone is able to bring the flags, please let me know.
  • Suggestion to ask rodeo directors to provide more garbage cans, put them in more accessible locations, and to empty them mid-rodeo.
  • Meeting Adjourned by Jason Clemens.

We will be having our annual members meeting this month, open to members and potential members.  It is on Saturday, November 22 at 6:30 PM at the Red Lion Hotel in Pocatello.  We will be selecting a new vice-president, choosing our rodeo locations, appointing event directors, and voting on any proposed changes to the rulebook. Proposed changes include changing 9-12 boys calf tie down to goat tying and charging a late fee for late entries.  If you are interested in these issues, make sure you come to the meeting and voice your opinions and vote!  We need a lot of help, so please consider running for vice-president or becoming an event director!

Check out the Smith boys from Rexburg.  They were in the Ag Weekly with their rodeo pony business. Congratulations Boys! http://www.agweekly.com/

Thanks to all that helped out at our Championship Showdown.  It was a great rodeo!  I hope everyone had a wonderful rodeo season.  A huge thank you to Laurie Stone for a great job as president for the last 2 years.  We are looking for a new vice-president so if you are interested, please come to the November meeting.  I will keep you posted on our winter meeting schedule.  Thanks!

July 28, 2008

Thanks for a great rodeo season!  I appreciate everyone's patience while I learned the secretary job.  Deby has always done such a wonderful job, I had some big shoes to fill!  Anyways, the season went well, the kids did awesome, and we all survived.  Hopefully everyone had a great time at the picnic yesterday.  The auction went really well and we raised almost $6,000!  A big thanks to everyone who donated and bought items and to Kelly and Cindy Duffin for organizing it so well.

Entries for the top ten are due on August 4.  I WILL start rolling down on August 5, so do not be late!  If anyone is interested in putting together a float for the parade, let me know.

There is a benefit for Colton Wright on August 5.  He was injured at the rodeo in Challis and has had to spend some time in the hospital.  The information is on this flyer:  Colton Wright Benefit

Laurie Stone is retiring this year.  She has done an absolutely fabulous job the last 2 years as our president.  If you see her, remember to give her a big thanks.  We will be appointing a new vice-president at our November membership meeting.  The job is a 4 year rotation, with 2 years as VP and 2 years as president.  If you're interested, be sure to come to the meeting.  Watch your email and the website for information.

Thanks everyone!  See you at the fair!

A press release from a New Zealand rodeo association:

The International Rodeo is New Zealands largest rodeo, held annually indoors at Westpac Arena during Cup & Show Week in November. This event takes the sport to a level like never before with the use of sound & lighting effects, pyrotechnics, LPG flamethrowers and explosives which ensures a sold out stadium every year. Tickets are priced from just $65 for adults and $45 for kids. Go to www.ticketek.com to get yours now!

It’s back and it’s bigger than ever

Saddle up ladies and gentlemen because November 15th 2008 will once again see Christchurch’s Westpac Arena filled with Cowboys, Cowgirls, Bulls, Horses and clowns.

Held as the finale to Canterbury’s Cup & Show Week the 2008 International Rodeo is shaping up to be bigger than ever before with cowboys from the USA, Canada, Brazil and Australia battling the Kiwis for rodeo domination.

The 2007 International Rodeo sold out in just a few months and International Rodeo promoters say that the demand is greater than the amount of seats available. The 2007 event gained global interest with the TV production reaching over 300 million viewers world wide so this year the rodeo will be streamed live via the internet to over 9 different countries and millions of rodeo viewers.

The 2008 International Rodeo will feature four rodeo disciplines: bull ride, saddle bronc, bareback bronc, and an exciting cowgirl barrel racing challenge. The International Rodeo will also feature entertainment acts from New Zealand and Australia as well as the rodeo cheerleaders, international bull fighting champion, rodeo clowns and over 300kgs of LPG propelled pyrotechnics.

Country and Western performer Brendan Dugan will perform live from a stage suspended from the roof of the Westpac Arena making the 2008 International Rodeo an attraction for the entire family and every age group.

Corporate hosting is another major part of the International Rodeo as companies can purchase tables seating 10 sitting ringside with full bar and food services catered by the Wrangler cowgirls.

Spectators will be on the edge of their seats when 39 of the world’s best cowboys and cowgirls gather in Christchurch during Cup & Show week for the biggest stand-off between man and beast ever staged in New Zealand.

Tickets are on sale at Ticketek from June 1st and spectators are urged to hurry as they aren’t expected to last long. Adults from $65 Children from $45.  www.rodeogp.co.nz

ABC’s hit television show, “Wife Swap,” is searching for families who are active in Rodeo to be considered for upcoming episodes of the show. We are searching for parents and their children who love the sport and would be excited to represent Rodeo on a national level. To be considered for the show, families must consist of two parents (not necessarily married) and have at least one child between the ages of 5-18 living full time in the home. Families chosen for the show will receive a $20,000 honorarium.  Interested parties can contact the Meghan McGinley at (646) 747 7936 or Meghan.McGinley@castingrdf.com.

We made it through our first rodeo (fairly) smoothly.  Even with a few event changes, we made pretty good time.  A huge thanks to our sponsors and everyone who volunteered to help out yesterday!  We couldn't have done it without you.  And, as always, our kids did great!  I'll have the daysheet for Preston ready 1-2 days before.  See you there!

Well, it is that time of year again - how quickly it goes.  We hope that the winter season sees you well and that summer returns very soon.

During the off season, I am not on the computer nearly as often.  I try to check the e-mail at least weekly; however, I do not check it quite as regularly.  So if you need anything quick, please give me a call and I will get back to you soon.

Don't forget the annual membership meeting.  It will be held in November.  I will get the date and time out to you just as soon as it is decided.

Thank you so much for all the great memories.  Your friendship has truly been appreciated and I look forward to seeing all of you down the road.

July 21, 2007

To all IJRA members:

I really do try to be patient – because I understand that the benefit is for the kids – but I have a huge favor to ask of everyone.

We enter just shy of 600 kids at each rodeo.  In Rigby we had 620.  If 90% get your entries in on time that still leaves 60 kids that I have to follow up with and get entered after the fact.  I realize that mistakes get made, but please take into consideration the burden that you put on the association when you do not get entered.  I am not pointing fingers or trying to make anyone feel bad – truly!, it is just that you will have a new secretary next year and she will have enough to tie up her mind.  It is a great deal of work to keep up with when everything is in line.  When you do your work and then have to redo it sometimes a couple of times, mistakes are guaranteed

I have really enjoyed being your secretary and I am glad that I could help out once in a while.  Please don’t apologize – just keep this in mind next year.

THANK YOU!!

July 20, 2007

Not that many of you got to vote on it – but I really appreciate being able to leave the rodeo early to go with my family.  It turned out to be a great weekend.  Please join me in thanking Emily Clemens to filling in at the office so that all of you could get your awards.  She did an excellent job with entering all the data – when I got to it, it only took a moment to format what she had done and get it posted to the web.  I should have entries done by tomorrow and have the daysheet posted this weekend.

Well, we are really down to the wire now.  Please, please, please – if you see anything that you do not think is right, please let me know as soon as possible so that I might get it corrected prior to the final rodeo.  Everything has been audited – but stranger things have been known to happen.

At American Falls, we will be doing a great deal of checking and double checking – so if you need something from the office, and we do not answer right away, please hang in there, we will get right on it.  Emily is going to come help me – it would be truly great to not be up all night doing the books for the awards picnic.

On Sunday, lunch is served from 12-1.  We will begin the auction as soon as everyone is served and the awards will be presented as soon as we have all of your money (did I say that out loud?), I meant as soon as the auction is complete.  Don’t forget to bring chairs and/or blankets to sit on.  Plan to hang around afterwards and just relax and visit.

I will have entry forms for the EISF Championship Showdown.  I know it sounds harsh, but if you finish in the top ten and do not sign up-I won’t come looking for you.  You will have until August 5th to decide if you are going to come, get an entry form, and get it turned in.  Then we start moving down the list until all ten slots are filled.  Remember, in the team roping, we take ten in each age group (both headers and heelers), plus their partners.

Well, I am going to get back to work now.  Thanks for everything.  See you in 9 days.

July 2, 2007

You proved it once again - the IJRA has the best families around.  You were amazing in Pocatello.  Having two arenas available has not happened while I have been here and I was a little worried that we wouldn’t be able to keep it moving – but for anyone who was not able to stay to the end, we were done by about 6:30 p.m. and we still ran 593 kids through.  Totally amazing – and all while so many of our directors were out for the JR High Nationals.

If you get some time, here is the link to keep track of our kids who are in New Mexico.  http://nhsrawranglerdivision.com/2007WJHFR/2007index.shtml  The action started this morning and some of our kids have already got their first event under their belts.

The next rodeo will be July 14th in Rigby.  Couple of items to remember.  They do not have a run back alley for the cattle, so they use a truck and trailer to bring cattle from one end to the other.  Please do not park up against the arena fence, they will need that kept clear for the trailer.  Also, they use their concessions to earn money to help the HS kids going to nationals, so feel free to eat lots.

The awards picnic is just around the corner.  Awards have been ordered and the points sheets have been audited through the first three events.  Points and standings are posted on the web page.  We award the top 33% in each event – which gives a lot of kids a chance to walk away with something.  Buckles and gifts to the top four and gift certificates on down.

We have a slight change in the location of the picnic.  It is still located at Ross park, but the shelter located right next to the pool is taken and we will be at a different section of the park.  This shelter has toys available for the little kids, so hopefully that will work nicely.  We will still be close enough that the kids can walk to the zoo or the pool after dinner and awards.  We invite anyone who wishes to hang around afterwards and chill with us.  It is great to just get together and visit for a change.  Anyway, we will have the park marked so that it will not be too difficult to find.  I will get down there next week and see what kind of shade we have, but it might be a good idea to throw your canopies in just in case.  Dinner is pot-luck.  IJRA provides the meat and the drinks.  We will also provide a few plates and forks, but if you think about it, please bring your own plates and utensils.  The rest of the meal is up to you.  We break up the menu based on your last name.  Last names E-I / Rolls and Condiments; J-U / Salad or Covered Dish; and V-D / Dessert.  If you plan on feeding 30 we usually make out pretty good.  Don’t forget serving spoons for your dish.

The awards picnic is also our big fundraiser of the year.  We have an auction.  We rely on your donated items to make the auction a success – that and your wallets.  Please invite your sponsors, your grandparents, your neighbors, your employers.  Donated items – the sky is the limit.  In the past we have had services, tack, crafts, equipment, feed, home décor, you name it, nothing is unreasonable.  Especially things that will get the kids bidding – they love that stuff and the cost goes up really fast J.  Payment is due the day of the auction unless arrangements are made – contact Laurie Stone.  Auction items can be brought to Kelly and Cindy Duffin at the rodeo or brought the day of the picnic.

We have a lot of new families this year, so I just wanted to make sure that everyone knows that the rodeo in American Falls is open to all, it is not limited to a few who qualify.  The “qualify only” rodeo is held in September.  The top ten in each event are eligible to compete in that event.  Entries for this rodeo are available at the picnic and are due by August 5.  This is a pretty fun rodeo as it is held during the Eastern Idaho State Fair (and the kids get to miss a day of school).

Well, I have probably rambled on long enough.  Each week I try to think of things that you may not know – so if you think of something, please ask your questions.  There is probably others who have those same questions too.

Thanks again, and enjoy your independence – God Bless our freedom and those who are fighting to keep it.

June 24, 2007

Outstanding work as always at the Grace Rodeo - the Grace fair committee does an outstanding job.  We cut over an hour off of the rodeo.  So sorry about the delayed results - I was not expecting a storm to come through and shut down the office.  Results are now up-to-date and posted for your review.

Some great news.  We have been at the Pocatello arena all week with the HS state rodeo where they run two arenas.  They are going to leave the little arena up for us to use also.  This is great news! So I just wanted to give everyone the heads up.  I will prepare the day sheet so that some events will run in the big arena and some in the small, keep an eye on what is going on so that you do not miss your events.  Events will not run simultaneously but it will save us some time because when an event is going on in one arena, set-up can be done in the other arena – which of course means that we are going to need a lot of help.  Please, please, please – be prepared to jump in and run gates.  We will try to cut two more hours off of our day – wouldn’t that be something?!?

I haven’t had a moment to work on the daysheet yet, but Sunday is coming, so I hope to have it out to you by Monday.  Have fun and try to enjoy your summer.

June 10, 2007

Well, one down – and we survived.  J  A Huge thank you to the Preston Crew – they did a completely awesome job.  The first one of the season always seem to go a bit longer just because everyone is still trying to get there bearings.

We have a lot of new families this year.  I hope everything went well for all of them.  Now that we have all had a look at the goals, we just want to touch on a couple of things.  Entries really need to be in by the appropriate due date.  As you can see, we have a few kids to organize.  When I have to redo the daysheet several times – well I hope you can see how things can get messed up (besides, it is a lot of work).  Also, we had many of you return the volunteer survey, yet we had several events where we had to call for assistance.  I know it is not always easy to know what needs to be done or where to help out at, but if you volunteered for a specific event, we would really appreciate your assistance.  If you did not return your form, please do not let that stop you from jumping in.  Grab a friend and go open a gate or pull ropes, anything would be great.  Directors, I believe that Jason sent you a list of who had volunteered, please utilize them and try to have your crews lined up.

Don’t forget your judges.  We all get very busy and often we don’t remember that they have been in the arena for 5 hours and have not had a break.  If you are going to the concession stand, maybe you could grab them a bottle of water or a hamburger.  I am sure they would appreciate it.  They work very long hours and get paid very little money, so please try not to dog them too much about the calls they make.  Remember, they are doing a very difficult job, one that most of us would not want to have.  600 judgments a day is more than most of us get even close to.

I hope to have the daysheet posted by tomorrow.  Sometimes we have things happen (incorrect entries or mixups) that cause the order to be slightly changed.  The judges sheets are the official order, so when it is your event, please be ready and listen for your name.  While we try very hard to have everything accurate, sometimes stuff just happens, so if you could be ready and flexible, I would really appreciate you.

The order of events will be different in Grace so that everyone is not always the last event.

Then, there is the garbage.  It takes a whole crew a great deal of time to pick up your trash at the end of the evening.  I do not feel that it is too much to ask of you, to pick up after yourselves – please.

We want to wish our HS State Qualifiers the best of luck at the state competition next week.  We hope everyone will get a moment to go cheer them on.  Bannock County Fairgrounds, Pocatello – June 19-23 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

I know that is a lot of words, so I just want to finish with a big thank you!  We really do appreciate you.  We have an awesome thing going here, we produce really great contestants, and it really is because of all of you.  Have a great week and we will see you bright and early on Saturday.

*****Correction to entry date - American Falls entries are due on July 14th - not June******

Hope to have the daysheets posted by May 30 - wish me luck

Idaho Junior Rodeo Association

Laurie Stone, President

Dear Laurie,

I am writing to you to serve official notice that this will be my final year as the secretary of the Idaho Junior Rodeo Association.

During the past seven seasons, I have thoroughly enjoyed my position as secretary.  I have worked hard to improve the association, while providing accurate and complete records for the association.  At this time, other obligations restrict the amount of time and effort that I can dedicate to the IJRA.

I would be honored to finish the 2007 season as your secretary and assistant, but will not run again or accept any future nominations.  I look forward to showing your next secretary how the computer program works and what needs to be processed throughout the year.

Thank you for the tremendous support that the Junior Rodeo membership and officers have shown me in the past and I look forward to another successful year.

Sincerely,

Deby Barrington

Missing Horse  - if you have knowledge of a horse lost in the Bridger National Forest, please contact the owner listed on the above flyer.

July 15, 2006

Holy cow!  Where did all the time go.  The last rodeo is just around the corner.  The year-to-date results are posted on the web site.  Please review them carefully.  The books will begin audit tomorrow, but anything you find first will make the process that must faster.  I know, I can hardly believe that I might mess up too, but it happens. J

The officers would like to again thank everyone who has pitched in to help this year.  We couldn’t do it without you, no help is too small.

Sunday is the awards picnic.  It will be at Ross Park near the swimming pool.  Dinner will begin serving at 1:00.  The association provides drinks and the meat (Logan Butler is cooking tri-tip), we ask that you provide the stuff to go with it.  Please bring your own plates and utensils plus a dish based on your last name.

Y-D / ROLLS

E-P / SALAD OR COVERED DISH

Q-X / DESSERT

During dinner we will have our fundraiser auction.  Any items you can get donated will be up for bid.  In the past we have had some really great and varied items.  After the auction we will distribute awards.  Remember, we award 33%, so if you finish in the top one-third, come collect your rewards.  Bring your swim suits, as after all is said and done, it is a lot of fun for the kids to go spend some energy while the adults sit in the shade and gather up all the energy we lost during the season.  It is a great time to visit and get to know everyone.

Top Ten entries will be available at American Falls and at the picnic.  They are due the first part of August, check the form for the exact date, but please do not be late.  If the first 10 do not enter, we move down to the next qualifiers.  After the spots get filled, we cannot go back and add someone who changed their mind or forgot the due dates.  This event is an invitational rodeo for the top ten point competitors at season year-end.  However, points are not carried into this rodeo.  All is a fresh start.  Jackets are awarded for the top three plus high point winners in all six divisions.  This year will have no admission fee for the rodeo, but still requires a gate fee at the fair.  It is held Thursday during the Eastern Idaho State Fair.

The general membership meeting has been scheduled for November 18th in Pocatello.  More information will follow, but please mark your calendars so you can help guide next years rodeos.

As soon as I get the word on camping and stalls, I will get it out to you.

See you on Saturday.

June 30, 2006

IMPORTANT!  Due to a conflict with the arena, the American Falls rodeo 2006 has been moved to Blackfoot.  Same date, same time, different arena.

The awards picnic remains unchanged.

June 27, 2006

IJRA members were outstanding at the Wrangler Division Idaho State Finals Rodeo.  Congratulations and Good Luck!  Go on and remind the Nation what Idaho is made of.  For complete results, click here.

June 19, 2006

Two down – three to go.  Great job to all who helped make Grace a success.  As usual the Grace committee outdid themselves.

Sorry for the inconvenience of having no concessions.  The burger wagon had a blow-up on the highway and did not make it in.  By the time we got word that they were having trouble, there really weren’t any viable options for a replacement.

Entries for the Rigby rodeo are due on Saturday, June 24.  Many entered at the rodeo, which is great, but if you did not get entered yet, please get them in.  Malad entries will be due on the 1st and American Falls entries are due on the 8th.

Clarification on a couple of rule items that came up recently.

  • Barrel and Pole racers are not allowed to circle coming into the arena.  This is a rule that was adopted by the high school association two years ago and has been followed by the IJRA, as in the end we want to make great HS and National contestants.  If the entry gate is not centered you are allowed to enter and line up before beginning your run.  The high school rules result in a disqualification for violations.  Our board has elected to go with a 5 second penalty instead.
  • Sheep Riding, up until a few years ago, the association used rams for the sheep riding event.  They were bigger and stronger and weight was not such a grave issue.  Due to rams having large horns, the association decided to move to hornless sheep, i.e. ewes.  They are smaller and require that we maintain the 50 pound weight limit a little better.  Contestants were weighed prior to the event and were allowed to compete even though they were over-weight with the understanding that they would be required to make weight before Rigby in order to continue.  Because kids will continue to grow, we have decided that mandatory weigh in will have to become the normal.  Many were bordering 50 pounds.  At weigh in, they will have to be below, or they will not be able to compete.  If you were over-weight at Grace, but are now under 50 pounds, you will be allowed to ride.
  • Parents cannot assist contestants inside of the arena.  I know this seems a little harsh when the contestants are so small.  It truly is a time issue.  We are there to compete and there are 607 kids.  If your youngster isn’t ready to compete, please don’t make them.  Also, as a safety issue, if you are helping your children at the gate or behind the scenes, please wear appropriate shoes.

I know that if you are new to the association, you may not know where to help out, even though you may be more than willing.  It is not bread into us to know that someone has to stand in that spot or open this gate.  We realize this and thank those that have found a place in the helper line.  If you are still a little dazed about all that is needed, please stop into the trailer and we will take your name and as a duty comes up, we will give you a jingle.  Especially as the days start heating up, it will take more of us to make it through.

Thank you so much for all that you do and for letting your children compete in the IJRA.  If you get a chance to spend any time at the HS or Jr High competitions, you will get a first hand look at how Jr rodeo can help these kids to become really great competitors.  So many of your state and national champions began it this very arena.  We wish them all the very best of luck in their upcoming competitions.

IJRA Members:

Well, the first of the entries are in and we will have 522 runs the first week in Preston.  Don’t forget to send in your Grace entries if you have not yet done so, they are due June 3.

I have submitted a list of the events to the stock contractor.  As soon as he has a chance to work out how much stock will be needed, I will put together the day sheet and post it to the web page.  Feel free to print from there and take to the rodeo with you.  Hopefully Tuesday.

This looks to be another great season for the IJRA.  Remember, it takes all of us to make the day go smoothly.  Please jump in and help with arena gates, catch pens, stripping chutes, pushing cattle.  Also, members are not allowed in the arena when they are not competing.  Please exit immediately after completion so that the next contestant can begin.  Parents are never allowed in the arena, unless directly assisting with a contestant or an event.  Please stand outside of the arena to take pictures and video – and to cheer.  Parents who assist their child beyond the plane of the arena risk having their child disqualified.  Stay off the back of the chutes unless competing.  Know where your young ones are.  Pick up your garbage.  Be ready when called.  Dress appropriately, Behave.  All the things that professional cowboys and cowgirls do.

It gets really warm during the day, make sure you have plenty of liquids for the kids.

Thanks for all you do.  Please ask if you have questions.
